Hypnagogia
string quartet
Hypnagogia is a fantasy which uses timbre and fragmentation to explore the hypnagogic state and its visions. I love the string quartet as a form and used to write a continuous musical diary in the form of a string quartet. It is a medium which is very close to my heart, the ability for all of it’s members to breathe together and at the same time generate really rich harmonies.

Hypnagogia is, dare I say it, a delicious piece for string quartet which explores the liminal space between waking and sleeping. It dances around with timbre and rhythm as images lift and fade and dart in an out. The borders of sleep, if you will.
